QWO is the first and only FDA-approved injectable for moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women.
It’s not fully understood how QWO works in moderate to severe cellulite. The enzymes in QWO—called collagenases—are believed to target a structural cause under your skin.
It’s thought that QWO works in 3 ways: releasing fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells, and stimulating the growth of new collagen.
Qwo is injected by your aesthetic specialist directly into targeted dimples in the buttocks using a small needle.
If your aesthetic specialist determines that QWO is right for you, she or he will decide on a treatment plan, including the total number of treatments.
Each treatment visit may include up to 2 treatment areas. QWO injections are usually given 21 days apart for 3 treatment visits.
Your provider will discuss the areas you would like treated. While standing, these areas are marked and photos of the area are taken. Then you will lie on your abdomen in a horizontal position, and each of the targeted areas are injected.
The initial appointment takes about 45-60 minutes, so all of your questions and concerns are addressed. Follow up treatments typically take 20- 30 minutes.
QWO may cause serious side effects including allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, including anaphylaxis, and injection site bruising. You should not receive QWO if you are allergic to any collagenase or the ingredients in QWO, or have an active infection in the treatment area
The most common side effects of QWO include: injection site bruising, pain, areas of hardness, itching, redness, discoloration, swelling and warmth in the treatment area.
The bruising may be significant and take a few weeks to resolve. Most QWO patients have the procedure in the fall and winter to be ready for summer.
